Dear EXCOM,

I just got back home after a productive ICANN 87 Annual General Meeting.
Below please find a brief report on the meeting:

1. We had a successful meeting between Afrinic and African ccTLDs that
are Resource members present at ICANN 87. There was no remote
participation. However Antonio Godinho (.MZ) and EXCOM member joined the
meeting as well. Notable discussions centered around the low uptake of
Internet Protocol addresses with particular emphasis on IP Version 6,
Resource Public Key Infrastructure and Domain Name System Services
available to African ccTLDs. The meeting was graced by among others the
AFRINIC Board Chairman Prof Wale, ICANN Vice President in Charge of
Technical Engagement Adiel Akplogan, ICANN Global Stakeholder Engagement
team Director of Operations for Africa Yaovi Atohoun and Wafa Dahmani
Afrinic Stakeholder Engagement Manager.
2. On the sidelines of the ICANN AGM, i met with Felix Ndayirukiye
Manager nic.bi who offered to host the Initial Registry Operator Course
in Bujumbura Burundi in February 2027. NIC.BI will provide accommodation
for at least 25 participants, conference package and Airport Transfers.
The participants will cater for their Air Travel. If there is no
objection from the EXCOM, i can make an official announcement on the
AFTLD Website in good time.
3. On the sidelines of the ICANN AGM i met Jaromir Talir from CZ.NIC the
Registry for Czech Republic. They have developed a new version of the
Fred Registry system and are willing to sponsor a trainer to a session
that will bring together all African ccTLDs using Fred. Currently .LS
(Lesotho), .TZ(Tanzania) and .MW (Malawi) are using Fred. We will
consider possibilities of having a quarter two training in July 2027
which we can host at the AFTLD Office.
4. On the sidelines of the ICANN AGM, i had a meeting with the CENTR
General Manager Peter Van Roste. CENTR will Sponsor a Cocktail for all
the ccTLDs present at the Global IGF that will take place in Nairobi
from 14th to 18th December. This has been approved by their board. We
agreed that AFTLD will support CENTR in choosing a suitable location for
the Cocktail. This has already started.
5. During the ICANN AGM i also had meetings with Fabrice from Togo (.TG)
and the (.DJ) ccTLD with respect to regularisation of their membership
which is ongoing.
6. I also had an opportunity to meet Rodriguez from Smart Africa. I
conveyed to him feedback that AFTLD might not be in a position to
participate in the Smart Africa Forum ahead of Africa IGF due to
resource constraints. He indicated that he would explore sponsorship
possibilities for one delegate from AFTLD before the meeting. I am still
following up on the same.

Attached please find a list of participants for the Afrinic AFTLD
session. I will share photos via Whatsapp.

Thank you
