2022 has been an invigorating year. We have over 100,000 .KE domain names registered and this could not have happened without your support. I want to thank the KeNIC Board, management, Staff, Partners and all the Stakeholders for your support and contribution towards this success. Our combined strength is what makes us successful as a Registry. We look forward to a bigger and better 2023! EVENTS 

2022 Kenya DNS Forum 
T he KeNIC held the 2nd National Domain Name System (DNS) Forum on 4th October 2022 under the theme "Cybersecurity". 

The event had plenary sessions and the topics for discussion included: 

    * Legislation & governance in the Internet Ecosystem. 
    * Building a more resilient and secure ccTLD ecosystem for social and economic development 
    * DNS Security; How to combat cyber security threats 
The forum addressed various challenges and highlighted opportunities faced by entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the domain name industry. We believe that by addressing these challenges and seizing opportunities in this sector, the lives of Kenyans will be positively impacted both socially and economically. 

KeNIC is among 5 registries in Africa to host a national DNS forum having held the first one in 2021 under the theme "Growth of the Domain System in Kenya & Beyond".

KeNIC hosted the Africa DNS Forum on 5th and 6th October. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Africa Domain Name System (DNS) Forum, under the theme “Attaining Inclusivity and Diversity in the DNS Ecosystem in Africa”. 

Since 2013, eight editions of the Africa Domain Name System Forum have been held. The meetings have brought together more than 2000 people interested and involved in the Domain Name System in Africa and around the world. Subsequent DNS Forums were hosted by Nigeria (2014), Kenya (2015), Morocco (2016), Tanzania (2017), Benin (2018), and Botswana (2019). With the pandemic, the African DNS Forum 2020 was held virtually in 2020. 

The objective of these forums is to help the domain name industry in Africa to grow at a competitive rate and ensure that the continent is at par with the rest of the world. Domain name uptake in Africa is still very low despite combined efforts by various stakeholders to develop the industry.

This year KeNIC marked the 20th anniversary on 6th October 2022. We celebrated 20 years of success and all things beautiful. In addition to reaching 20 years in business, KeNIC also reached an important milestone, we now over 100,000 .KE domains registered!

H.E the President of Kenya, Dr. William Ruto, delivering his keynote address during the official opening ceremony of KIW 2022. "We are developing relevant policies that will nurture and stimulate innovation in Kenya. This is in appreciation that innovation has the power to accelerate productivity, generate gainful employment and create wealth for millions of ordinary people ." 
Kenya Innovation Week (KIW) is a flagship innovation forum for the country run by the Kenya National Innovation Agency. It seeks to showcase the innovativeness of Kenyans under which the national priorities of the Vision 2030 will be advanced. 

KeNIC participated as an Exhibitors at the 2022 Kenya Innovation Week. The event was held from 6th - 8th December 2022 at Sarit Centre Expo under the theme "Connecting Innovations Glocally." 
Kenya's innovation potential is tremendous. The country is uniquely positioned and well- endowed with a promising innovation ecosystem that if well guided and managed can have a transformative effect in organisations, countries and even the continent. We are proud to be part in this "innovation movement" of Kenya. 
KeNIC Corporate Social Initiative 
KeNIC participated in this year's Forest Challenge that was held on 26th November 2022 at Kereita Aberdare Forest, Kiambu County. 

We demonstrated our commitment to environmental conservation by planting 200 trees, empowering local communities by purchasing seedlings from them and creating employment for members of communities living adjacent to woodlands under restoration. 
MSK Marketers Experience 
The MSK Marketer's Experience was held on 29th July 2022 under the theme AI, Metaverse, and Data Protection in transforming marketing. 

KeNIC's former CEO, Mr. Joel Karubiu was a panelist discussing the importance of Data protection, security, and impact of the Data Protection Act 2019, on the marketing sector. 
DEVELOPMENT IN THE INDUSTRY 
Launch of ICANN Managed Root Server (IMRS) 

In November ICANN set up a Root Server Cluster in Nairobi to alleviate DoS attacks. The event was graced by the ICT and Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo and CA Kenya’s Director General Ezra Chiloba. 

So, what does this development mean? First, internet users will now have faster access to services on the web in this region. At the same time, these internet users will have better protection from cyberattacks. 

“The installation of the IMRS cluster aligns with our mission to digitally transform not only our own country but the entire continent, through regulation, partnership, and innovation. We are proud to help bring a more resilient Internet to a larger audience in Africa,” said Hon. Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary for Information, communications, and the Digital Economy, Republic of Kenya. 
PARTNERSHIPS 
Memusi Hope Foundation 
KeNIC partnered with Memusi Hope Foundation through Moringa School on a project to facilitate training of 34 interested students from Kajiado county on software engineering & data science. This 5-week course launched on 20th July 2022 in Kajiado County, with a mission to build talent and opportunities through tech-based learning. 

KeNIC provided web hosting services while Master Card Foundation provided the learning experience, Huawei laptops and Osta Tech Ltd internet in the facility. The students of the Maa community in Kajiado, graduated on 11th November 2022 in software development skills.
