at the Virtual Africa Internet Governance Forum

ABSTRACT

Country code Top Level Domain Registries have over the years played a 
very important role in establishment and mainstreaming of the Internet 
Governance Forum at National, sub-regional and continental Levels in 
Africa.  Over the years country code Top Level Domains registries either 
sponsored or hosted Internet Governance Fora  in most countries in 
Africa that have a National or Regional Internet Governance Initiative . 
With the entry of new players into the Internet Governance arena and 
emergence of rights based concerns as opposed to infrastructure and 
access related issues, the role of country code Top Level Domain 
Registries has become vague. This round table seeks to examine whether 
country code Top Level Domains Registries are still relevant in the 
Internet Governance ecosystem in Africa and what their current role  is. 
The round table will seek to answer the following questions;

1.	Are country code Top Level domain registries in Africa relevant in 
the present Internet Governance ecosystem?

2.	What is the role of country code Top Level Domain Registries in the 
evolving Internet Governance ecosystem in Africa?
